Reflection #4

  1. Discuss the potential pitfalls in project design.
    • try not to make projects long or busy
    • make sure projects uses significant research to have the best results for learning
    • thematic units are not always the best for projects, make sure it is worth while for the students' learning
    • make sure students are not overthinking their projects
  2. Discuss the features of a good project.
    • loosely designed
    • generative
    • centered on driving questions
    • realistic
    • reach beyond school
    • have rich data
    • HAVE STUDENTS LEARN BY DOING
  3. Discuss where project ideas come from.
    • students' questions
    • classroom irritant put to educational use
    • contemporary issues
    • new stories
    • project plans developed by other teachers
  4. Discuss the steps to design a project.
    • revisit the framework
      • look at learning objectives
      • what 21st century skills needed or wanted
      • learning dispositions wanted for students
    • Establish evidence of understanding
      • what do the students know or what information can they find
    • plan the theme or challenge
      • what would the students inquire about, do, and create.
    • plan entree into the project
      • what will get the students excited about?
  5. Discussion on how concepts in this chapter relate to your topic/project.
    • our project is for the students and is created to help students learn about being healthy in their everyday lives. I feel that our project has potential to have the students asking questions and learning beyond.

    I think it is nice where we can apply those steps on our project. As a result, we will engage the students thinking and have them cooperate to finde the best solutions.
